Truth Wins Out Calls Barack Obama’s Statement On Anti-Gay Gospel Singer Donnie McClurkin Inadequate And Disappointing

NEW YORK - Truth Wins Out responded today to a statement released by Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign, which condemned “homophobia’, but made no mention of cutting ties with homophobic “ex-gay’ singer Donnie McClurkin, who is scheduled to appear in a South Carolina gospel tour promoting Obama’s campaign.  Truth Wins Out contacted the Obama campaign for further comment, but they have yet to respond. Last night, the Obama campaign placed the following statement on its website:

‘I have clearly stated my belief that gays and lesbians are our brothers and sisters and should be provided the respect, dignity, and rights of all other citizens. I have consistently spoken directly to African-American religious leaders about the need to overcome the homophobia that persists in some parts of our community so that we can confront issues like HIV/AIDS and broaden the reach of equal rights in this country.

Gay Rights Protesters Confront Nancy Pelosi

CHICAGO, 10/19/07 — Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and  Transgender (LGBT) activists
will protest against the Chicago visit of House  Speaker Nancy Pelosi tonight
over her weakening of the proposed Employment  Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA),
a bill aimed at ensuring employment protections  for LGBT people.  The
protest will begin at 5 PM outside of a 5:30 - 6:30  PM cocktail fundraiser Pelosi
is hosting at the Westin Hotel, 909 N. Michigan  Avenue.

With the aid of openly gay Congressman Barney Frank, Pelosi recently
stripped ENDA of its protections for Transgender people, and greatly  weakened its
protections for Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals.  Gay rights  groups have almost
universally condemned Pelosi’s and Franks moves, signing open  letters and
petitions openly condemning their previous allies.  The  issue has been the subject
of repeated banner headlines in the gay press.

United ENDA Supports Congresswoman Baldwin’s newly announced efforts to restore gender identity protections to Employment Non-Discrimination Act

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, October 16, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced today that she has secured an agreement from the Democratic leadership to introduce an amendment to H.R. 3685 that would restore gender identity protections to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act ENDA).  The amendment would be considered on the House floor next week, after the bill moves through the House Education and Labor Committee this Thursday.  After her announcement, the United ENDA coalition released the following statement:
Two weeks ago, our community was told that gender identity would not be included in any version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.  Congressional Leadership expected our community to acquiesce.  However, United ENDA effectively communicated the strong opposition of hundreds of organizations and millions of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community to leadership’s efforts to advance a stripped down version of the bill.
