Don

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

I was watching the Republican debates last night on Television and I got confused by a comment by Ron Paul who said, “We don’t get our rights because we’re gays or women or minorities. We get our rights from our creator as individuals. So every individual should be treated the same way. If there is homosexual behavior in the military that is disruptive, it should be dealt with. But if there’s heterosexual sexual behavior that is disruptive, it should be dealt with. So it isn’t the issue of homosexuality.”

Ron Paul made this statement but immediately followed up with the statement that he would not change the policy and he thinks it is working. From his statements we can conclude that Ron Paul believes the don’t ask don’t tell policy isn’t about being openly gay in the military it’s about having sex. Does this mean if America elects Ron Paul as president, he will extend the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy to straight men and women in the armed forces? Will every person serving our country need to take a vow of chastity? If they do each take a vow of chastity, does that mean gay men and women would be able to join the armed forced if they also took the same vow?
